Abbotsford Road Coffee Specialists

27655179_406204569820201_2525115219602998833_nA new espresso for our coffee bar. I am so excited for this addition to our coffee bar. Abbotsford Road Coffee Specialists come to us from Brooklyn, NYC. Finding these guys through one of those “6 degrees of separation moments”…I spoke with Logan, who set me up with some samples. Well, say no more, I was hooked. This espresso was one of the best I have had yet. Of course, there is a method to their madness, in producing such an awesome product. They blend their espresso to actually go with milk. Simple. They roast in small batches, so everything we serve was in the roaster two weeks ago. The blend we are serving now is their Crema. Balanced and smooth, this espresso has notes of butterscotch, malt and nuts.

Blogging Again…an update.

logo copySo, its been awhile since I have blogged, my laptop had to spend sometime at university with my son until he could get his own. The things we do for our kids, right? But, here we are into our 2nd year and having a great time. Many thanks to all our regulars, and that list is growing everyday, and all the folks who find us on Franklin St, that I am sure will become regulars. First, I would like to welcome a new edition to our Coffee House Family, Amber. She graduated from Johnson and Wales Culinary program, worked as barista in a very busy coffee house and also as a pastry chef in a German Bakery. I am so excited to have her. The girl has some serious skills and I’m looking forward to sharing those with you all. Our bakery has expanded quite a bit since last year, offering gluten free and Vegan options, Please remember, these offerings are for  preference only. Our Saturday Coffee Cake has become something that people are looking forward to each weekend. Following us on Facebook or instagram to see the updates.  We will be changing our hours in the spring to take on the longer days, so watch our instagram and Facebook for that info.

Greetings All!.

We will be open on Thursdays from 8am to 8pm during the Torrington Marketplace starting July 6th, 2017. Grab a cup of joe or your favorite iced latte and peruse Main St. to enjoy music and food and whatever other treasures you will come across. You can obtain a copy of the official guide here at the coffee house so you don’t miss any of great events happening on those nights. There will be everything from trains to giant potatoes! Definitely worth a trip downtown!

Butterscotch, Housemade

When was the la20170614_081125sttime you tasted authentic butterscotch?  Historically, butterscotch was a hard candy made with unprocessed sugar. The suffix “scotch” means “to cut”. When sugar or candy is hot it’s difficult to get a clean break, so one must score it while warm to facilitate getting a clean edge later.

With that said, and a little experimenting, we have our very own GCCH Butterscotch now available. Housemade with dark brown sugar and butter, heavy cream, vanilla paste and salt. Have it hot or iced in a latte or cappuccino. This quickly became a new favorite of our staff.

El Salvador and Guatemala

We have some new coffee offerings at GCCH. El Salvador brings us El Molino. Compared to washed coffees from this region, El Molino has more body and sweetness, with a warmer acidity and beautiful berry aromatics. Bourbon Variety. Natural Process. Some Flavor notes include dried apricot, heavy, syrupy.

Guatemala brings us one of our favorites, Santa Isabel. Irving Farm was incredibly lucky to have received a third of Santa Isabel’s viable harvest this year, and what it may have lacked in quantity it exceeds in taste. With its flavor notes of Caramel, Dark Chocolate, Spicy. Washed Process. Variety, Bourbon, Catuai, Caturra.

The El Molino is available in a Pour Over Brew. Santa Isabel is being served as our Small Batch Brew, but is also available for Pour Over Brewing.

Almond Flour, organic peanut butter, and sweetened with pure maple syrup. Come on in and let us know what you think!! Wheat/Gluten Free and Vegan!
